Our Story:

Jon Hooyenga

Founder and President of Duty First Assistance Dogs

“Coming from a family filled with military service, for years I struggled with the fact that I didn’t serve. I realized I had an opportunity, and the duty to serve those who served us. Veteran PTSD is an ongoing battle that is taking the lives of too many of our service men and women.”

Jon Hooyenga - Founder and President

We have built a team of amazing, dedicated, and talented people who are passionate about serving these men and women and accomplishing our mission. Your support, whether through monetary donations or volunteerism, can help save lives.

SSG Matthew Rentfrow

In Memory

Matt served honorable for nearly ten years as a United States Marine, including deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He served as a Staff Sergeant with the Marine 2nd EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Company.

Matt’s life was a grim reminder of the sacrifice our men and women give for our freedom. Matt passed away after a courageous battle with PTSD. He is our inspiration and a reminder of the seriousness of our mission. We will never forget the sacrifice of service that Matt and so many others have given to us.
